“She’s such a Pollyanna!”

Have you ever noticed?

Have you ever noticed that everything in life worth doing, is difficult? Have you ever noticed that for some of us, our mind automatically drifts to the negative instead of the positive? There are some people who can’t even stand to be around positive people because it’s so foreign to them, that the positivity drives them completely crazy! They tend to think positive people are fake because they can’t grasp the concept that a person can really be that happy.

Yesterday in my blog I talked about learning to love ourselves, and how difficult that can be. We can’t really know ourselves until we can see ourselves as the wonderful tiny child God created. We can look at another person and see all their wonderful attributes. But when we look at ourselves, we see nothing but our downfalls. We focus in on our past traumas, our shortcomings, our failures, our mistakes. And then we wonder why we don’t change? Why we can’t move forward? Why we can’t find happiness?

But here’s the deal. We don’t find happiness, we have to create happiness. And unfortunately, we can’t create happiness until we get rid of our negativity.  On the second of this month I posted:

We must become the artist of our own life; it’s absolutely essential to our wellbeing. We don’t want to be 90 years old still wondering who the heck we are. We want to learn this concept in our youth, so that we can have a beautiful life while we’re still alive here on earth. Will there be obstacles? Yes. Is it hard? Initially yes. But it works, and it gets easier in time.

Happy people are not fake, they’ve just learned the trick of mastering their emotions. They don’t allow themselves to be negative, period. They don’t give negative things their attention. They have taught their brain how to find the positive in everything. Have you ever seen the movie Pollyanna? It was waaaaaay back in the day

when God had me stumble upon this movie. But it taught me a valuable lesson. It taught me that I’d rather be a positive Pollyanna, than a negative ninny! Personally I don’t find anything attractive to being so engrossed in your negative emotions, that you’re not privy to the blessings God has given you.

We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.

For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen

Is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18

Concentrating on negativity is seeing what is temporary. We must train our brain to go one step further. We must train it to replace negative thought patterns with positive ones, and eventually positivity will become habit. Become a daily fisherman of your brain and catch your negative thoughts as they occur! When you’re doing this, you’re actually creating a new brain pattern. The brain pattern most used, is the brain pattern that your thoughts are directed too. Hence, if you’re negative all the time, you are heading down the negative ninny path. If you’re positive most of the time, you’ll be going down the positive Pollyanna path. This is also why it’s so crucial that we hang around positive people, because what we hear we think, and what we think creates brain patterns. Are your friends positive? Or negative?

This is yet another reason why abused people can be so negative. If you’re around someone who is continually berating you, hurting you, or molesting you (or all three), then you are surrounded in pain and negativity. This is one of the reasons why the famous preacher Joyce Meyer’s had such a terrible time becoming the person she is today. You can’t expect to be positive when you’ve been molested by your father for years. But with God, you sure can change your circumstances. Joyce leaned on God and was able to change her brain patterns by following His Word.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just,

whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence,

if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Philippians 4:8

You can do the same. And please trust me when I say it gets easier each time you do this. It also forms into a habit, which means you will no longer even have to think about it. Being positive opens up your love window, and eventually you’ll be able to climb through it and learn to genuinely love yourself. Add God to that mixture? And your vision becomes quite clear. When that happens, you’ll discover your true life purpose.

What does negativity have to do with health? Many of you already know that when you start feeling stress it triggers the hypothalamus in your brain, which then triggers your stress hormones! This in turn, sets your flight/fight responses into full swing.

So what, you say? Well, stress hormones cause disease. Yes, stress hormones are great if a burglar sneaks into our home, because they warn us. But if we’re constantly allowing stress to interfere in our lives there is a smorgasbord of health-related areas that can be affected, such as:

  • Our central nervous and endocrine systems
  • Our digestive systems
  • Our sexuality and reproductive systems
  • Our immune systems
  • Our muscular systems
  • Our respiratory and cardiovascular systems

It can also cause a host of different symptoms, such as:

  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety

Mix any kind of drugs, and/or excess of alcohol consumption… and look out!

I believe with all my heart that the reason I have Lupus is from the years of stress I endured, which I was too immature, too naïve to understand, and totally incapable of handling in a healthy fashion. I also believe I got this disease due to all the unhealthy processed, “fake foods” I put into my body. Listen folks, you can be skinny and eat in a very unhealthy way. I know, because I used to be one of those people. It catches up with you. Don’t starve yourself, don’t gorge yourself, and don’t eat “fake foods”. Eat medicinally and give thanks to God for the food you’ve been blessed with. Don’t fall into the trap I fell into. Because goodness, it’s hard to climb out of it. And PLEASE feed your children healthy food. I can’t even list all the ways fake foods harm your child.

The good news is there are many ways to start healing oneself, but I’ll list some of them that I think are of utmost importance:

  • Prayer and meditation
  • Reading your bible
  • Turning your negativity into positivity
  • Keeping a gratitude journal
  • Eating whole foods, with veggies and fruits being your number one food source.
  • Drinking mostly water
  • Essential oils
  • Dry brushing
  • Epson salt baths
  • Hanging around positive people
  • Listening to positive podcast, and YouTube channels
  • Getting a daily dose of humor
  • Doing something kind for someone else
  • Stretching your muscles daily (Yoga, Pilates, or plain ole stretches)
  • And I must add; our pets

My health: Today I woke up with a Migraine which gave me a very late start. I’m still not quite well enough for my morning routines (detox ginger drink, yoga, and a healthy breakfast). It’s 12:20 PM and I haven’t done any of them. I’ve instead switched my routine today to: Prayer, meditation, peppermint essential oil, and coffee for some caffeine.  I’m telling you this to let you know that part of healing is listening to your body, and giving it what it needs. Many of you would have plummeted through your workout and the rest of your morning rituals. However, this ALSO wrecks havoc on our body and stress levels. Don’t create “laws” for yourself. Don’t live by your rules, or your coworkers rules, or your magazines rules, but by God’s rules.

I still haven’t figured out why Western Civilization feels so guilty if they’re not being productive 100 percent of the time. Please give yourself permission to sit quietly and meditate when you’re hurting, or struggling. Silently ask your body what it needs, and God will let you know intuitively. Your body is your temple, and it needs attention and nourishment. With that being said, I think I’m finally ready to eat… so off I go!
